How can I get used to my new dentures?
Getting new dentures is a big event in your life! Whether, you’ve lived with the problem of missing teeth or older dentures that don’t fit properly, a new set of dentures can give you the confidence you need to smile and interact socially again.
But it does take some time to get used to the feeling of new dentures, particularly if you’ve never worn them before. Here are a few basic tips to help you adjust:
Speaking – Practice helps a lot! When you’re at home, try reading out loud to get used to the way your mouth and lips move when you speak. Talk to yourself, your partner, or even your dog!
Eating – It’s not uncommon to have difficulty eating when you first get dentures. Practice with soft foods and cutting your food into very small pieces.
Getting used to new dentures is different for everyone, and the most important thing to remember is to be patient with yourself! Dr. Law works with experienced technicians to create dentures that are comfortable and fit perfectly, so remember that adjusting to the fit and feel is just another step in the process.
